Callas (Mowgli Proudly Presents Callas)
07-02-2006 - 17-02-2010
Sadly Callas passed away today. She crossed the road and was hit by a car and died immediatly. Although Callas wasn't our dog, she had a special place in our hearts. She's been here very often and we've done some training with her. We also spent a lot of time at Marjoleins place when Callas had her litter 8 months ago. She will be dearly missed!!!!!
As you can read here it's over and done with, with Daantjes breeding. Marjolein Spijker, the owner of Callas was so friendly to offer us a litter from Callas as an alternative for our breeding. Because of that Marjolein became the co-owner of our kennel "Mowgli Proudly Presents". For more info about Marjoleins dogs, take a look at her website www.langhaar-weimaraner.nl She's written something about Callas for my website which you can read here:
Not long ago, I came in contact with what the dogs are originally bred for: hunting. With Marjolein, the breeder of my Balou and Callas, and Roel we're trained the dogs a couple of times. Sometimes alone, sometimes with an experienced dog like Daan or Barak to guide them. They loved it! They surely made a spectacle out of it! Searching the field, trying to find birds, like they'd done that milllions of times already! They searched the field and took so much field every now and then that I lost sight of them. Despite the fact that it was their first time in the field, they just did what they were supposed to do! It was a lot harder for me! Where does the wind come from? Where do you let your dog of lead? Where can the birds be found? What do you do when they find a hare? And to let them off lead was difficult for me as well. Imagine they take off and get lost (controlfreak). Thank goodness Marjolein and Roel were very patient with me. The dogs had a great time and came back when they were asked to (hmmmm....).

One thing is clear, Callas is a very good dog. As a breeder it's always important to know where you stand and if you've done well or not. That's why I always want to see the dogs in the field, unspoilt preferably. I've kept a sister of Callas until she was allowed to travel to her dad in the UK, where she lives now. Dutchess showed a lot of potential and it wasn't only emotionally very difficult to part with her, but also because we saw she had a great future in the field. Another sister of Callas lives in the Czech republic now. She's also done very well so far. She's not only shown potential, she's also proved it by earning 3 CACT's already in the field. An outstanding score for a Weimaraner. And she's only 2.5 years old..... Check out Cristy's website www.weimaraners.cz
We haven't seen much of Chara, another sister of Callas, but what we've seen looks good. She hunts with her head high and the fields don't bother her. She goes through short cover as easy as through heavy beets.
Billy, their brother, owned by me is a wonderful hunting dog. He isn't good enough for the field trials (not for high qualifications at least), but is very useful during practical hunts. He has an intense point, is a very good retriever (very soft-mouthed), also for lost game and he is a tank. He literally goes through every cover which comes on his way. He's very good (excellent really) on bloodtracking too so a true versatile dog!!!!
Because there is so much natural abiilty in all these dogs, I really hope for a pup from Callas who has all this as well. I actually think it's kind of impossible to have a pup that's not good from this combination!!!!
