VJP Schwerinsdorf 2010

The day before the test we were already there for the "klönabend". This is an evening where judges and handlers come together for a nice evening. Totally unexpected, Roel and Billy received the award they'd earned at the bloodtracking trial they'd won late last year in Reepsholt, Germany. What a nice way to start the weekend.

The next day, after a fairly short night ( we had a great time!), we gathered at the hotel and where put in groups. Unfortunately we were separated from Dolf and Marjolein S. ( the breeder of the D-litter of Mowgli Proudly Presents). So we took off with the three of us, Berry (owner of Ravid), Roel and me. The judges took us to the exact same place where we'd run the VJP with Billy a couple of years before. Beatiful grounds with a fair amount of game on it.

Roel and Ravid (Mowgli Proudly Presents Draakje) were the firsts to go. Ravid, despite his very young age of only 9 months, started to hunt immediatly. Because of their age, we'd only had like a month and a half to prepare the dogs for this test. Before that, they were just too young. Dino (owned by Marjolein S.) showed us what we expected of him the last couple of weeks of the training, Ravid was a little bit behind. Especially the last training prior to the test wasn't too good. But today was his day, he just started doing what we wanted him to do. He took a lot of field and really was looking for game.

Roel wasn't even aware of the fact that Ravid had been on point twice allready, on the other side of the road, out of his own field. It turned out to be a hare which took off with Ravid out of sight. So after some fieldsearch, he could start his hare track straight away. And he did a wonderfull job.

What a relief. We were allready done, only half an hour after the test had started. So Ravid was put back on the lead so the others could have a go.

This took a little bit longer. The first dog was unlucky, no game in his field. The second one decided to show us the bird without pointing.

But eventually everything turned out fine for them as well!!!

The last part of the test was the shottest, which of course he passed!!!!

In Germany, the judges want the highest score possible, so we've been in the field untill noon so all dogs could get the best score possible for them. After that, it was time for the official part of the test, checking the dogs tattoo or microchip and check their dentition.

And finally it was time for the score. Ravid turned out to be the best of his group with 73 points!!! A very good score for a dog his age. Click here to see his results.

The three of us drove back to the hotel with a huge smile on our faces, escpecially since one of the judges was interested in using Ravids dad (Mowgli Proudly Presents Balou, a dog bred by me). Makes you really proud I have to say.

After a very good German dinner at the hotel with all the handlers and judges, it was time for the rewards. Marjolein S. had some trouble understanding what the judges expected of her during the day, but at the end of the day she went home with 63 points (with Mowgli Proudly Presents Dino)!!! Dolf and his bitch (Curly van Valckesteyn) earned 68 points and Ravid ended 8th (out of 23) with 73 points. And he was almost the youngest of the day. He really did us proud!!!!

The overall results were really good. You can really see both the Weimaraners and their handlers are developing really well. This is how we like to see our breed.

Next thing will be the HZP and VGP. The training has already started!!!!!
