Daan

(Dutch. and International show champion Mowgli Proudly Presents Daan, W'04)

On the evening of the 4th of January 2003, Meike and I both knew it wouldn't be long before the pups would arrive. The evening before Mowgli had been very nervouss already and she'd had a serious temperature drop. All indicators for the upcoming litter.

Although I'd seen it many times before at work, having a litter of your own bitch is clearly something else. Well, within half an hour after we went to bed, she had her first pup. Within 2.5 hours she had a nice litter of 6, 4 dogs and a bitch and one stillborn bitch. I knew I wanted to keep a bitch from this litter, so I knew from the beginning which one was mine and I named her Daan.
A lot of people found this very confusing by the way, since Daan is a boysname in Holland. Yes, I like being controversial every now and then, lol!
Thank goodness all pups grew up without any problems and they've all found themselves a fantastic new home. I'm still in touch with all of them.
I had big plans with Daan. I wanted to do things right this time and make up for what I ruined with Mowgli.
And looking back now she's 5 years old, I have to say we're really getting there. Daan is not the easiest dog I know, but she's determined, can be very cooperative and has a golden character. When she was only 4 months old, she was already on point for the very first time, so no lack of natural ability either.
We already have 8 field trial qualifications and a couple of certificates of merit. She's also done well on the German tests (VJP and HZP).
Of course Daantje is being used as a proper hunting dog as well and she's already retrieved hundreds of pheasant, hares, ducks, pigeon and rabbits. She's also done a couple of bloodtracks, but that's not her strongest point. She's had a litter of 6 lovely pups in 2006 and hopefully she'll have her second litter later this year. I expect a lot from the combination with the dog I found for her and I'll be keeping another pup from this litter. Hopefully that pup will follow in her mothers footsteps on the field trials. More info can be found on the "pups-page".
